Notes on Installation of Radar Flow Meters in Irrigation Canals

No obstacles shall block the radar probes for water level and flow velocity during installation, otherwise the measurement accuracy will be compromised.
Keep the top surface of the flow meter housing horizontal as much as possible, and mount the device at the center of the canal.
The beam of the velocity meter shall face the incoming water as shown in the installation diagram, with a horizontal angle of 0° relative to the water flow direction.
The velocity meter is only affected by moving objects. For fully hardened canals free of weeds and trees, the beam coverage on both canal sides will not interfere with flow measurement.
Under identical conditions, a higher installation position leads to weaker echo signals and poorer signal quality. This issue is more prominent in low-flow scenarios with slight water ripples, where detection becomes difficult. Meanwhile, the radar coverage area expands, and the beam may hit the canal banks and be disturbed by moving objects there. An excessively low installation height is unfavorable for anti-theft protection. For pole-mounted installation, the recommended height is 3 to 4 meters.
Conduct on-site surveys to confirm the installation height of the flow meter and collect relevant canal parameters.
